REGARDLESS, Ora's been working on our new website. It is very good looking and very exciting (and still a work in progress, mostly due to me not doing enough yet): www.doppelskope.com
We are getting very excited about the New Orleans Fringe - and about our preview performance at the PIT in NYC. (Our performance at Puppet Blok is being rescheduled)

What it is, peoples.
Well, Ubu Roi has certainly come together. Our first shows went very well, and it's time to get ready for this weekend of performances. Hopefully I'll be able to see some of the other fringe shows, too! With the busy season for X-Tink-Shun coming to a close and the fringe festival wrapping up, I'm going to have some more time, which I plan to take full advantage of. An Existential Sing-Along's performance at Dixon Place is being rescheduled, which will give us more time to get ready for our run in New Orleans. Ora, industrious as ever, is trying to book us at the PIT (People's Improv Theatre) in NYC. I'm going to be auditioning quite a lot in the next few months, which should be exciting. I've also got some new material I'd love to start working on... and I'm going to take some of my extra time to devote to yoga and aerial, which I've been missing. I'll also be taking this class in Leqoc Clown (which I am also coincidentally the model for, since my friend is organizing it and took the promo pictures): https://sites.google.com/site/kchick/workshops. And I'm finally learning the harmonica. And I just invented hummus. Bam. I have not unpacked my suitcase from Vermont, but I have finished about half my maple syrup, and reorganized my magic props. This is more typical than I'd like to believe.
Midsummer was an amazing experience, and reinspiring on personal, professional and artistic levels. I met wonderful people. I felt proud of the work. I was reminded of some super important acting lessons, and reminded of why I do what I do. Yes. Yay. There are pictures in the picture section. I should find links/files of the reviews. There are also forthcoming pictures to be added to Scheer Wonder and Scheer Foolishness. I am back at the zoo and having a blast. Back with that crazy tamarin, Leo, and also occasionally doing The Douc, and Igor the Tiger (with a Russian accent!) They are both high status characters, which is a fun switch up from Leo, who is a classic number 2 clown. Rehearsals for Ubu Roi are pretty frenetic! At our last rehearsal our puppet designer tightened up some of the puppet work while I myself (normally the puppet captain) was stolen by the director and fight choreographer to work on one of the fight scenes. I'm running back to my next rehearsal in five minutes. AES is coming along. We just got into the New Orleans Fringe Festival! We'll have to add another twenty minutes of material after our Puppet Blok performances in September. Fun, stress, fun! Aaron's coming into town soon, and we're hoping to get into some busky reduced shakespeare style trouble. As always several other irons in the fire that can't be announced yet. Off I go! I love the fight choreography for our huge lovers' brawl scene. Dan is amazing to work with.
http://lostnationtheater.org/info/?p=2176 really fun pictures in this lnt update, and it makes me happy that they're still billing me and the boys are "LNT's bad boys of abridgement". Good times, good times.
We're only just starting but I already really like our director. It's great to be with the boys again. And we're having a lot of fun getting to know the rest of the cast. Today I got my hair lopped off (and it feels so good), we did publicity photos, and started blocking. Then I went to yoga with Helena, and a bunch of us ate at the Skinny Pancake and hung out frivolously. After a flurry of note taking for Existential Sing-Along, and Ora researching the New Orleans fringe festival, forward progress has been halted by phone tag-ish. I'm in Vermont, writing from my awesome host family's house!
We start rehearsal tomorrow, and I'm pretty good in terms of memorization and home work. The train ride today was awesome. I left around 10 AM from Philadelphia, and when we passed through NYC, Kate, who's playing Hermia, got on and sat two seats behind me. Having a cool person to talk to made the train ride fly. Speaking of flying, Kate just ordered her own aerial silks - we're hopefully going to get to play in the air while we're here! The rehearsal schedule for this week is not intense for me at all, since I'm not in all the scenes. A major difference and minor relief after doing the Reduced Shakespeare plays the past two years. In my down time I'm hoping to hit the gym, do a yoga tour with Eric, and get some good work done on An Existential Sing-Along with Ora. Maybe I'll learn the harmonica and play with magic, too, or maybe I'll just live a little. We'll see :-D Here are some great photos from the blog of great photographer Jim Moore! This is from the last tinydangerousfun I participated in. Some fun ones of me, and some fun ones of other weirdos, too!
http://vaudevisuals.com/2011/04/tinydangerousfun-variety-showcase-march-29-2011/ Also need to add some puppet pictures to the website. AND some new videos. If I say it maybe it will happen... Last week I did a ten minute Macbeth with Ora at PUNCH Kamikaze Shakespeare in NYC. So good to work with her, as always. I should have video to post soon of me trying to eat an entire birthday cake while saying the "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" speech. Met a lot of great people, saw a lot of good friends. And super odd - the show as at the 45th street theatre (now called The Tank). I haven't been there in almost exactly three years, but it's where I had my industry showcase for Actors Theatre. Really specific and strange memories!
I got cast in a show in the Philadelphia fringe! We're doing Ubu Roi. I'm off book for Midsummer! I think! What it is! Just spent a little time copying and pasting parts of the first folio together to make myself a study side for Demetrius.
And now! Here's our GMA clip: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/puppets-zoo-educate-13534627 And here's some pretty cute stills: After getting a new phone and fixing my computer I thought I ought to celebrate by posting.
Here's a thing! http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/category/watch-listen/video-on-demand/?auto&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=5754304&flvUri&partnerclipid Taking a trip to the alma mater tomorrow with fellow clown/'Berg alum Leslie Berkowitz. Getting along oh-so-well with my fellow puppeteers. We're talking about starting a puppet improv ensemble called FOPI (Found Object Puppet Improv). And we're starting to get really comfortable with our characters, as more and more odd contigencies come up for us to perform in. Should be getting my script from Lost Nation soon. |
