Scheer Creation
I'm an award-winning writer whose plays and creative works have enjoyed productions in New York City and all around the United States. My interactive stage project, The Amazing Story Machine, hailed by The New York Times as “endlessly inventive,” has been presented at Symphony Space, The Jim Henson Carriage House, The Tank, and Puppet Showplace. I am the recipient of a prestigious Family Grant from the Jim Henson Foundation, as well as a First of May Award from Bindlestiff Family Cirkus.
I co-wrote Gruff!, a post-apocalyptic climate change musical, which ran Off-Broadway at Vital Theatre Company in 2017. With my frequent collaborators Ora Fruchter and Toby Singer and through our production company Doppelskope, I also co-wrote Grimm! and Growl!, which together with Gruff!, comprise an interconnected triad of musicals for family audiences that have been performed at venues including The People’s Improv Theatre, McGinn/Cazale Theater, Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre, Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and Long Island Children's Museum. I'm also a writer/puppeteer for the popular YouTube puppet show series The Creatures of Yes. My new adaptation of Rumpelstiltskin will premiere at The Puppet Co. of Maryland next year. Upcoming projects include The Comedy of Wizards (a musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors) and Fun with Eggs, a tragicomic screenplay about a college comedy group alumni reunion.

Reviews
"Extraordinary puppets...this endlessly inventive production demonstrates the power of a really amazing story machine: the imagination."
- Laurel Graeber, The New York Times
“Prepare to be wowed by a dazzling puppet story.”
-Time Out New York
“Doppelskope theater troupe draws inspiration from “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” but adds female characters and a few sly twists: Instead of menacing, monstrous bridgekeepers, the trolls here are tenderhearted vegetarians, guarding the only green place left on earth...No one should be astonished that the bad guys are grizzled old goats, but the younger generation of the species — led by the production’s heroine, Gruff — soon learns that preservation of the planet isn’t a bridge too far.
- Laurel Graeber, The New York Times
"It's an hour of non-stop fun for the kids, but there are also extremely relevant socio-political messages in this show...and its creative team does a commendable job in creating an educational, well crafted, and exhilarating piece for all ages."
- Ran Xia, Theatre is Easy
"Everything that great children’s theater should be.... entertaining, engaging, and educational... Along with that is the unspoken goal of getting kids excited about going to the theater from an early age. Message received and mission accomplished! The show is at once smart and silly... Gruff! is guaranteed to keep children (and adults) spellbound...”
-DC Metro Theater Arts
“An effervescent concoction, thoroughly rejuvenating, inventively eye-popping... relentlessly sharp turns and witty reinterpretations of the story you thought you knew.”
- Lehigh Valley Stage
“Joy is the feeling these artists bring to the stage...I can only say that I’ve never, ever enjoyed Hansel and Gretel this much before...I’d like to personally thank this exciting group of performers for reminding me that there is good in the world. You just have to tell the story."
